Why I Walked Away From Corporate…

Starting my own business wasn’t a sudden leap. It was the result of two decades of experience, reflection, and a growing desire for something more.

After 20 years working across local government, the private sector, and the building industry, I reached a point where I realised the traditional office structure no longer allowed me to use my skills to their full potential. I had built strong qualifications, developed a broad and adaptable skill set, and gained invaluable experience.

I wanted the freedom to apply those strengths in a way that felt meaningful and aligned with who I am.

Over the years, I became the “go‑to” person for friends and family whenever they needed help with admin tasks, processes, systems, or general business organisation. Whether it was setting up procedures, creating documents, navigating compliance, or simply bringing order to chaos. I genuinely enjoyed helping.

And one thing became clear: if the people in my small circle needed this kind of support, how many other business owners were out there feeling overwhelmed or stuck?

That realisation was the turning point!

The moment I understood that the work I loved doing could become something bigger. Something of my own.

Helping people untangle their admin challenges felt natural. It was practical, purposeful, and impactful. What struck me most was this: if people in my immediate circle needed this type of support, how many small business owners out there were feeling the same pressure?

That question stayed with me.

Eventually, I realised that staying comfortable in corporate meant ignoring an opportunity to build something of my own, something aligned with my strengths and values.

Starting my business wasn’t just about flexibility (although the freedom of working for yourself is incredibly empowering). It was about stepping into my full capability. It was about choosing growth over comfort.
